I've found that the distinct flavor of Red Delicious Apples + Green Anjou Pears + Unrefined Coconut Oil truly gives new meaning to the word "Nectar". Toss in a few Red Dates (not particularly sweet) and there starts the magic. Indeed, eating with a medicinal focus can be oh, so delicious.
From the perspective of Chinese Medicine and the energetic properties of our key ingredients: Apples are cool, sweet and helps tonify your Qi, especially to the lungs during the cold/dry winter months. Pears, especially when cooked, also help bring moisture back to the lungs - easing ENT issues caused by dryness & phlegm. The Red Dates boosts the Qi while calming the spirit. These three, coupled with cinnamon & ginger (both warming & harmonizing to the stomach), make an amazing dish that can be enjoyed warm, cool and on top of almost everything. Enjoy!
Preheat oven to 375
Red Delicious Apples, sliced into 8 wedges, core removed
1-2 Green Anjou Pears, also sliced into 6-8 wedges, core removed
8-10 Chinese Red (or Turkish Brown) Dates, pitted and sliced¼ c
2-3 TBS unrefined coconut oil
3 tsp cinnamon (or to taste)
2 tsp – fresh ginger (optional)
Place everything in an oven-safe dish and cover.
Bake until fruit is easily pierced with a fork.
Serve warm or chilled!
